Walter Powell: MP for Malmesbury, Multi-Millionaire and Balloonist
One of the most colourful characters associated with the history of Malmesbury is the Victorian period MP, Walter Powell.
Tony will tell his remarkable story: his privileged childhood in Wales as the son of a coal mining magnate, his move to North Wiltshire to pursue the life of a country gentleman, his philanthropy towards Malmesbury people and his tragic death in a ballooning accident.
