Calling all Shops and Businesses - Have you applied to display a piece of art this year in your window?

For the last three years, Community Engagement and Town Promotions Committee of Malmesbury Town Council has organised a High Street Plus ‘Art Gallery’. This is to encourage more residents and visitors into our shops and to promote local artists, with a view to purchasing the art displayed.

This has been a great success, which is why we are now inviting you to participate in the High Street Plus Art Gallery 2024!

We are also linking in with Caerbladon CIC and their September Art Month, which includes the Flying Monk Arts Trail during the weekend of 21st and 22nd September 2024.

How the High Street Plus - Art Gallery will work…

You will provide a space in your window to display a piece of art from a local artist between Saturday 17th August and Sunday 22nd September 2024.

·         The artwork needs to be in a safe place, but neither you nor Malmesbury Town Council will be liable for theft, damage or any associated loss. The artist will be providing their artwork at their own risk.

·         The artist will provide a piece of art appropriate to the size of your window and have one in reserve, should the first be sold.

·         The subject of the artwork will be appropriate for all age groups and have the title and price attached. There will also be a small descriptive display card to go with the artwork.

·         The artwork will be delivered to you by the artist in advance of the start date.

·         If someone wishes to buy the artwork, then you will direct them to The Tourist Information Centre (TIC) at the Town Hall to pay for it. None of the art sales should go through your till.

·         The TIC will have a full list of the exhibits and prices and will process the buyer’s payment and provide them with a receipt.

·         The buyer will then return to you with a receipt as proof of purchase and you will give them the artwork.

·         If sold, the retailer will receive 20% of the sale proceeds & the artist will receive 80% of the sale. You will be contacted for bank/ payment details in due course when this happens. Malmesbury Town Council will manage all payments.

·         The TIC will then contact the artist to ask them to deliver second piece of art for display in your window.

·         All artwork will be collected by the artist after the exhibition has finished.

Malmesbury Town Council will promote the High Street Art Gallery with posters, online posts and social media. Each retailer will be given a notice to put up in their windows to identify their participation in the High St Art Gallery project. There will also be a grand opening launch by the Deputy Mayor Cllr. Stephen James, at 10:30am on 17th August 2024.

We really hope you are interested in taking part  and if you have any questions about the High Street Plus - Art Gallery, then please contact the TIC (Tourist Information Centre) at the Town Hall via email This email address is being protected from spambots.
