Malmesbury welcomes visitors from twin town of Bad Hersfeld, Germany

A civic reception was held for our friends from our twin town of Bad Hersfeld, Germany on Friday 29th August 2025.  Malmesbury and Bad Hersfeld formally twinned in October 2024.

In attendance was the Mayor Cllr Stephen Jones, Deputy Mayor Cllr Robert Hastings, Julia Bowen, Chair of Malmesbury & District Twinning Association, members of Twinning, Graeme Brown the Warden of Warden & Freeman, former Mayor and Councillor Mrs Catherine Doody, Rosa Clough Mayoral Cadet, former Town Clerk Mr Jeff Penfold and Malmesbury Town Councillors.

And Kai Struthoff, German newspaper editor arrived at the reception after cycling all the way from Germany!  He set off on Thursday 21st August and arrived in time for the reception.  Raising money for a visit from the youth section of the volunteer fire service in Bad Hersfeld to visit Malmesbury.

On Saturday our visitors braved the torrential rain and joined in with the Malmesbury Carnival Procession.
