Thank you to Scott Media for this post on CCTV in Malmesbury.
The plan to install cameras at 29 locations, around the town centre has long been in the making. Now the work is taking place and CCTV is being installed around the the long stay car park, Cloister Gardens, Gloucester Street, Gloucester Road, Abbey Row, Cross Hayes, Market Cross, Malmesbury Abbey and at various locations along the High Street.
Cllr Steve D’Arcy is chair of the council’s policy and resources committee and has been guiding the CCTV project. He said:
“We feel CCTV is a great step towards combating vandalism and antisocial behaviour, which have been on the rise since the pandemic. CCTV is a proven deterrent, and residents and businesses have been calling for the installation for some time so we’re delighted that this project is now coming to fruition.”
The installation of the CCTV units is being carried out by Redhand CCTV and will be operational from late September. This project represents an investment of around £37,000 by the town council and the cameras will be monitored by the town council team.
